I think you took a photo of yourself standing there with a plain cloak on,
then you inserted a vector of the skull and set the color mode to overlay,
you used the burn and dodge tools to outline the skull, giving it more depth,
you inserted a picture of the bear and used the burn and dodge tools to give it the right lighting profile,
you added the vines to your cloak and staff using a combination of pictures and brushes,
the roots on the ends of your staff and coming out of your cloak are roots you extracted from another picture,
lastly, you either used the lighting flairs filter or a brush to add the light at the end of the staff.

wow this is the kind of thing I want to be able to create....eventually

I love the way the bear is curiously looking at the globes of light...or maybe entranced. Is he turning into a tree or the tree into a man? also the skull in the rock is cool. i have nothing to criticise here!

lighting is also fantastic. How long have you been doing this?
